The sixty percent voter participation requirement for the referendum to be valid was been already pass, the SPLM said.

SPLM Deputy Secretary General for the Southern Sector, Anne Itto, said from the samples from centres the party received over 2.2 million have already voted by the third day of the polls.

Dr. Itto did not supply the press with concrete figures.

Dr. Itto added that SPLM is aiming at 100 percent turnout.

She noted that it was important for all registrants to vote because it creates solidarity and the sense of making history.

The Southern Sudan Referendum Act says the plebiscite is binding if at least 60 percent of the 3.9 million registrants vote in the poll.
