JIMMY CARTER PRAISES FIRST DAY OF POLLING

Jimmy Carter, former president of USA, paid a visit today to the Southern Sudan Referendum Bureau. He was accompanied by former UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan.

The two leaders are in the country to lead the Carter Centre observation delegation in Juba.
Mr. Carter congratulated the work of the Southern Sudan Referendum Bureau and paid tribute to the orderly and perfect conduct of the first day of polling for the referendum.

The first day of polling in Southern Sudan was marked by a huge turn out of voters, and voting will continue until January 15 2011.
