Kenya hopes that the referendum in Southern Sudan will end peacefully, but has announced plans to deal with an influx of refugees should it turn violent.

Kenyan acting foreign minister George Saitoti said his country and UNHCR made contingency plans to receive up to 20 thousand refugees at once if it comes to that, Daily Nation website reported.

The plans include intensifying security along the common border and the registration and documentation of refugees likely to flock to the country.
