More than 100 local observers are being prepared to monitor the referendum polling slated to take place within 18 days.
Merekaje Lorna is the Secretary General for the Sudan Domestic Election Monitoring and Observation Programme (SuDEMOP). She told Bakhita Radio that her organization was training local observers to monitor the referendum vote.Ms. Merekaje said the one-day training would help the domestic observers to record correctly the information and to properly monitor the referendum process together with their code of conduct at the referendum centres.
The observers were drawn from various civil society organizations accredited by the Southern Sudan Referendum Bureau.
