US SPECIAL ENVOY TRAVELS TO SUDAN AND QATAR

US special envoy left the United States yesterday for the Sudan and Qatar to support the on-going international efforts to ensure full implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and the Darfur peace talks.

Scott Gration will travel to Khartoum, Juba, Darfur and Doha, the US Department of State announced.

In Khartoum and Juba, Mr. Gration will meet with senior officials to keep preparations for the referendum on track, agree on a way forward on Abyei and move ahead on planning for the post-referendum period.

Mr. Gration will spend three days in Darfur with planned visits to el-Fasher and Nyala meeting with UNAMID officials and other international partners to discuss the security and humanitarian situation.

He will conclude is trip in Doha, Qatar, to discuss the peace process with the United Nations, African Union and Qatari officials who are facilitating on-going talks with the parties to the Darfur conflict.
