HIV INFECTION RATES HARD TO PREDICT, SAYS CHAIRPERSON

The Chairperson of Southern Sudan Aids Commission said HIV /Aids infection rates in Southern Sudan were difficult to predict.

Today the world celebrates AIDS Day to commemorate those who died of the disease and mobilize communities for a continuous fight against the scourge.

Esterina Novello Nyilok is the Chairperson of Southern Sudan Aids Commission (SSAC). She said that the current infection rates across Southern Sudan were hard to predict due to the difficulty of producing accurate data, UNDP reported

Ms Nyilok defined that the role of the Commission was to recommend strategies based on evidence to control the spread of the disease.

She added anti-retro viral medication and other health facilities were increased to treat HIV-positive people free of charge.

Ms Nyilok calculated that the number of HIV-positive people living in Southern Sudan was around 300 thousand.
