A civil society group carried a massive procession in Juba today to sensitize citizens to register and vote in the upcoming referendum scheduled for early January next year.
The Freedom March attracted hundreds to the streets of Juba and to Nyakuron Cultural Centre, Bakhita Radio reported.Karlo Wani Arigo, a member of the civil society group that called for the rally, said the march was organized to encourage tcitizens to register in order to vote in the referendum.
Mr. Wani lamented that Southerners were being forced to register in the north.
He reiterated his organization’s call to the citizens in the south to register and vote for total independence of southern Sudan.
Hundreds of marchers started from Kator B Court and went through Juba University to Nyakuron Cultural Centre chanting No, no for unity – Yes, yes for separation.
Leading political and civil society leaders presented speeches at the end of the rally.
