The Churches of Sudan are organizing a high level conference to debate the issue of the oil industry after the referendum.

Rev. Ramadan Chan Liol, Secretary General of the Sudan Council of Churches (SCC), issued an invitation for the high-level conference “Sudan’s Oil Industry after the Referendum” scheduled for Juba, on December 7 and 8, 2010.

Rev. Chan wrote in the invitation-announcement that the conference will indentify priority areas for government regulation of the petroleum sector, map available international standards, and recommend policy options.

He added that the conference will present perspectives from local communities, discuss the role of companies, as well as the contribution that civil society can make.

Rev. Chan said the organizers expect high-level participants, including MPs and representatives from different levels of government, civil society, the business community and local communities.

The event is organized by the SCC and European Coalition on Oil in Sudan.
