South Sudan Referendum authorities extended the voter registration period for one week.
Southern Sudan Referendum Bureau Deputy Chairperson, Achier Deng, told the press this afternoon in Juba that the Commission extended the registration period up to December 8 for technical reasons.Mr. Deng said the extension would not affect the date of polling on January 9, 2011.
Mr. Acheir said referendum centres have been facing registration materials shortages and the Bureau needed to address the problem.
He added that the extension would allow more time for those who were not able to register to do so.
Mr. Achier announced that registration for prisoners depended on availability of materials.
