The student Union of Greater Equatoria took up the challenge of participating in voter education on the referendum process to bring more people to registration centres.
Ibrahim Charles, chairman of Greater Equatoria Students Union, told Bakhita Radio that a team from his association is canvassing to encourage citizens to register in order to vote in the upcoming referendum.Mr. Charles revealed that the students are encouraging the citizens and registration officials to help women, elderly and people with disabilities to register first whenever they appear at the referendum centres.
He said women represented the majority of the population and they needed to register in large numbers in order to achieve the expected results by southerners during the vote.
Mr. Charles revealed that the students began the enlistment process on Saturday.
He said they visit residential areas, playgrounds and clubs to encourage the youth to register in order to vote and pass the message to their families.
Reports from different states indicate that the turn up of women for registration is very low.
