Southerners are determined to achieve “freedom and peace” and to end “the cycle of war”, a senior priest visiting Sudan said.
Fr. Jean-Roger Ndombi, the assistant for Africa and Madagascar at the Jesuit central government in Rome, is visiting the communities in Sudan to become familiar with their pastoral situation to represent them effectively at the General Council.Fr. Ndombi told Good News Radio that during his short stay in Khartoum, Wau and Rumbek he saw the Southern Sudanese determined to end the cycle of war.
He added that the engagement in the referendum process is a manifestation of hope.
Fr. Ndombi expressed hope that freedom and peace could be achieved by the Sudanese.
He said peace was the “the first gift from God” and the basis of all activities.
Fr. Ndombi quoted the bishops of Sudan saying that the results of the referendum, whatever they may be, need not bring hatred between the Northern and Southern Sudanese.
Fr. Ndombi is a native of Congo-Brazzaville. Before his present assignment in Rome, he served as Rector at the Hekima Jesuit College in Nairobi where he hosted Sudanese Catholics that gathered for Sunday worship at the College chapel every month.
