The option for separation outweighed that for unity during a debate on “Should South Sudan remain in a united Sudan or make a country of her own?”.

The debate organized by the Agency for Independent Media (AIM) took place this morning in the Green Room at the Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly and dwelled on cultural and religious issues seen as their main arguments for an independent south Sudan.

Most participants argued that south Sudanese and north Sudanese were different people in culture, colour and religion.

Dr. Amon Wathoka said that south Sudan would not be a failed State despite its chronic under-development.

The debate was attended by less than twenty people mostly from civil society groups.
