Two Catholic bishops returned home after a European peace advocating trip for Sudan.

Bishop Rudolf Deng Majak of Wau, President of the Sudan Catholic Bishops’ Conference (SCBC) and Bishop Edward Hiiboro Kusala of Tombura-Yambio were in Europe for one month to advocate for peace in the Sudan.

The two Bishops visited Britain, Germany and Holland.

Bishop Hiiboro told SCR News this morning in Juba that the SCBC delegation asked the UK government and the European Union to support the cause of peace in Sudan.

He added that in the UK they met with government officials, MPs and Christian communities to tell them that there was a potential return to war.

Bishop Hiiboro said the UK was part of the history of Sudan and should commit itself to the referendum process it started in1947.

He added that the delegation urged the UK government to engage with the authorities in the Sudan to negotiate some critical issues.

Bishop Hiiboro revealed that the UK government assured its support towards the referendum and promised to strengthen its presence in the country.
