Yei women yesterday started preparing a sixteen-day campaign on gender based violence and referendum participation scheduled to start on November 26.

Sarah Natalina, Yei River County Women Association, told Easter Radio that yesterday’s first meeting was to inform the community about the campaign on violence against women.

Ms. Natalina said that the activism campaign was very important to ensure women’s equal participation in the referendum process.

Gender Based Violence officer for the American Refugees Committee, Rose T. Michael, said in yesterday’s meeting the participants set up a committee and agreed on the activities for the sixteen-day event.

Ms. Michael added that the campaign will take place at payam level to raise awareness on the violations of women’s rights and women’s role in the family and society.

The meeting was attended by eighteen people, including NGOs representatives.
