Members of South Sudan parties are being trained to observe the registration process for a free and fair referendum.

The one-day training took place today in Juba and was conducted by the International Republic Institute (IRI) and sponsored by the USAID.

IRI Programme Coordinator, Gladys Giye, told SCR News that the training focused on party agent observers because they were enough to cover the ten states.

Ms. Giye said international and local observers were few in number.

She added that IRI planned to extend the trainings to county level across the ten states and to Northern Sudan where Southerners resided.

Each political party sent 14 elements for training.

Voter Registration is scheduled to start on November 14, almost two weeks away.
