NORWEGIAN GOVERNMENT DONATES 10 MILLION DOLLARS FOR SOUTH SUDAN PUBLIC SECTOR

The government of Norway granted ten million US dollars to the government of Southern Sudan to strengthen the public sector in the region.

The grant will support the initiative to bring two hundred civil servants from Kenya, Uganda and Ethiopia to south Sudan to support their counterparts in the region in order to deliver better services.

Officials from the Norway Government, UNDP, and GoSS signed an agreement to support the IGAD initiative for capacity building among civil servants in south Sudan.

GoSS minister for Labor and Public Sector, Awut Deng Acuil, told the press that the programme aims at a strengthening the public service sector.

Ms. Deng added that south Sudanese should feel the dividends of peace through competent civil servants.

Ms. Deng added that the IGAD civil servants will be coaching their equals in south Sudan during two years so that they become competent to deliver quality services to the public.

Erik Solheim, Norwegian minister for Environment and International Development, represented his government while Claudio Caldarone, UNDP country director, represented the UN agency.

The two hundred civil servants will be deployed in strategic functions twinned with south Sudanese officials to ensure the transfer of skills and in-job training.
