The perpetrators of Cueibet revenge attacks, in Lakes State, that took place earlier this week were captured and jailed in Rumbek.

Cueibet County Executive Director, Mangar Col Maguong, told Good News Radio yesterday that the vengeful mission started with a cold blood killing of a targeted passenger on a bus near Cueibet on Sunday.

Mr. Col said the victim from Duony Payam was targeted for about one year because his relatives were allegedly involved in the murder of one resident from Mayath Payam last October.

The Sunday revenge killing sparked off an armed conflict between the Pador from Duony Payam, and the Pagor from Mayath Payam, leaving one dead and nine wounded.

Mr. Col said the ring leaders of the two retaliatory attacks were arrested: the alleged culprits of the Sunday murder were already in Rumbek prison, while those allegedly involved in Tuesday revenge attack were expected in Rumbek Prison yesterday.

He confirmed that the situation in Cueibet was calm.

Mr. Col said the revenge attacks were cultural, and could be stopped only through education.

If the recently adopted Chiefs’ Conference recommendations in Lakes Sate are anything to go by, the perpetrators of the cold blood murder could be hanged.
