MINISTER CALLS UPON AID WORKERS TO RESCUE FLOOD VICTIMS

The minister of humanitarian affairs and disaster management called upon humanitari
an aid workers for a rigorous effort to rescue flood victims in northern Barhar-el-Ghazal state.

James Kok told Journalist that his ministry called for a meeting with humanitarian organizations to join efforts to help the victims in northern Bahar-El-Ghazal

Mr. Kok said the meeting aimed at informing the aid agencies on the situation in the state after his visit confirming that the situation is still severe and needs immediate response.

Mr. Kok said that the inhabitants of Aweil need relocation to dry areas since the rain situation still remains unpredictable.

Mr. Kok pointed out that family tents are the first immediate elements to be considered if the victims are to be relocated to higher grounds.

He stressed that children need to be protected from exposure to further rains.

Over eleven thousand households were affected by the continuous heavy rains in the state that rendered many homeless with properties destroyed. The government of south Sudan has declared the region a disaster zone.
