Sudan People’s Liberation Movement, (SPLM) launched yesterday its elections campaign in Torit town with a call on the people of South Sudan to get ready for freedom.

Eastern Equatoria state caretaker governor, Johnson Juma Okot, made the call in reference to a remark by the President of the Republic during the CPA celebrations in Yambio last January, Radio Emmanuel reported.
Mr. Okot said President Omar al-Bashir promised to be the first leader to recognize the independence of the south if Southerners choose to separate from the North in the 2011 referendum on self-determination.
The caretaker governor interpreted Mr. al-Bashir’s declaration as a pass for independence, stressing that every citizen of South Sudan, and Eastern Equatoria in particular, should vote for separation and be ready for freedom.
Mr. Okot said during the war the SPLA recaptured several places in the state by force at day time.
He added that now the SPLM is determined to capture victory of south Sudan without foul play in the elections.
Mr. Okot assured people who carry their political manoeuvres by night that they will be defeated at broad day light.
He said the April elections will be free and fair with levelled grounds for all political players in the field.
Thousands of SPLM supporters turned up for the State Campaign launch at Freedom Squire in Torit town.
SPLM candidate for governor, Luis Lobong Lojore, was official presented to the electorate amid ululation from the crowd.
