The president of the republic presented his candidacy for the top post in the April general elections with a basketful of campaign promises.
Omar Hassan al-Bashir told the crowd that filled Juba stadium Monday evening amid a strong security scheme that he will build a new bridge and stadium in the capital of the South and link it with Wau and Uganda through a railway.
Agnes Lukudu, NCP deputy secretary general for the Southern Sector opened the rally by introducing Mr. al-Bashir.
She said the NCP brought peace and development and Mr. al-Bashir has to continue his work.
Joseph Lagu, a veteran from Anyanya One war, told the crowd that the person they know is better than the one they do not know.
He urged voters to vote thoughtfully and prayerfully.
Mr. al-Bashir told the crowd of supporters and curious in a 17-minute long speech that the war he wants to fight is development.
He added that in 1956 unity was imposed by force and failed.
Mr. al-Bashir promised to hold the referendum on South Sudan’s self-determination in January and respect its outcome may it be separation or unity.
Mr. al-Bashir added that after war came peace. Now after peace is time for development.
