The President of the Republic of Sudan has assured residents of Eastern Equatoria state of peace in the Sudan, saying he opposes a return to war.
Omar Al- Bashir who is also the NCP presidential candidate for national unity in his first Visit to Eastern Equatoria State yesterday for official launching of the Party campaign vowed before the audience never to drag Sudan into war again, Radio Emmanuel reported.
He called upon the citizens to embrace peace and defends it up to the last minute.
Mr. al-Bashir’s priority areas of concern were peace, unity and development, in the next term in office, if elected.
Addressing the rally at the freedom square in Torit town, Al- Bashir said his choice of Torit to launch the party campaign in the South was due to the historical records of the state.
Torit is the first town in Sudan that started an uprising against oppression of the marginalized Southerners and later the birth place for the Anyanya one revolution.
Al-Bashir called for unity and peace in the Sudan saying that only those who have never suffered the dangers of war would like to go back to war.
He urged Eastern Equatorians to support him and his party saying he advocates to make unity attractive for all through peaceful means but not by force.
The president declared that it’s the choice of the citizens to either vote for unity or separation.
He assured that he has nothing much to resolve with the SPLM, exception issues of the boarders.
After addressing the Torit rally, President Al- Bashir headed for Kapoeta while he was also expected to visit Magwi and Yei counties in the Greater Equatoria states before finalizing in Yambio, his tour of south Sudan.
