Voter Registration turnout has revealed an increase of over eleven percent in the adult population in Southern Sudan.
The V Sudan Population and Housing Census says that Southern Sudan has a voting population of 4 million 228 thousand and 43 individuals while so far 4 million 674 thousand and 345 have registered.
Jersa Kide Barsaba is a member of Southern Sudan High Elections Committee. She told SCR News that comparing the results of the Census with the voters registration turnout, over 111 percent of people have registered for the elections.
Ms. Jersa said for now there are final results only for Western Equatoria, Warap and Unity states and the latter registered a turnout of 190 percent, almost doubling the census figures for the region.
She added that the increase may have to do with the arriving of returnees from Khartoum and from abroad.
Ms Jersa said the voter registration grand total is expected after December 18 after UNMIS brings in the results from two inaccessible areas in Eastern Equatoria on that day.
The Southern Sudan authorities claim that the census results were rigged and wanted to use the voter registration turnout to prove them wrong.
