The former governor of Darfur has described the state of affairs in the region as a no peace and no war situation.
Eltigani Ateem told SCR News that the 2006 Darfur Peace Agreement has not brought peace but more insecurity to the region.
Mr. Ateem classified Thabo Mbeki’s report on Darfur is a serious work which has looked into the problem and if implemented shall contribute in resolving the problems of the region.
The report recommended the set up of a hybrid Criminal Court made up of Sudanese and foreign judges to try individuals for crimes committed during the conflict in Darfur.
In another development, Mr. Ateem commented the detention of SPLM officials last Monday as a grave mistake for the police to use excessive powers and a symbol of a non democratic society.
