GoSS Minister for Roads and Transport said his ministry intends to rehabilitate seventy thousand kilometres of roads in Southern Sudan but lack of funds has blocked the project.
Anthony Lino Makana told the press today at the 2010 Work Plan Conference for Sudan Infrastructure Services Project that although funds are not enough, most highways in the region will be upgraded to marrum, gravel and tarmac roads.
He said he visited China and signed a contract for the supply of road construction equipments to be distributed to states to enable them to rehabilitate their own ways.
Mr. Makana confirmed that Juba river port will be upgraded to enhance the water transport system in the region.
He added that feasibility studies for the railway transportation are under way.
