Sudan’s security services have arrested three South Sudanese working for a Catholic charity in Nyala, South Darfur, and closed the office.
South Sudan Caritas director Gabriel Yei told CRN that Dominic Pathic, James Celestino and William Atorjony were making preparations to return to South Sudan when they were arrested by security officers.They were working for Sudan Aid, the Sudanese Catholic Caritas group.
He added that the security services also closed the Sudan Aid office in Nyala.
Mr Yei said that he was told that a number of people working for the ecumenical organization Sudan Council of Churches were also arrested but he could not confirm how many.
A Catholic source in Khartoum confirmed the arrest of Sudan Aid staff in Nyala.
Meanwhile, Islamic fundamentalists Saturday set on fire a protestant church in Sahafa area of Khartoum although the police had cordoned off the temple.
The group was also calling for the deportation of Southerners calling them foreigners.
Islamic fundamentalists took a more radical stand after the South Sudanese army left Higlig.
