The Country representative for International Fertilizer Development Committee (IFDC) Justine Miteng Friday called for improvement of market economy through Agriculture<\/p>\n
Miteng encourage the government to utilize the agriculture sector to earn revenue in the country.<\/p>\n
He added that strengthen crops will boost economy through production of local seeds in large quantity and market through the agro-dealers network<\/p>\n
\u201cWe need to encourage market economy in South Sudan, and therefore in agriculture sector which is a booming sector right now, we need to ensure that is a revenue earner and we start with marketing of seeds.\u00a0 Therefore farmers, produce seeds for companies, and seed companies\u2019 process these seeds and market through agro-dealer networks that are created within the village networks.<\/p>\n
Mr. Justine discourages free distribution of seeds to help local seeds producers earn income to improve standard of their living and create employment to the local population<\/p>\n
\u201cWe try as much as possible to discourage the free distribution of seeds and input services because we feel that distracted market and therefore it robes the village farmer from getting employment.\u201d<\/p>\n
The official called on the stakeholders to join hands in order to expand seeds production across the nation to fight food insecurity<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want to call everyone on board, the stakeholders that are responsible for food security in this country, so that this innovative approach in seeds sector development that lead in to production and productivity is expanded.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want to make sure it goes to other states, we want even extend our outreach in areas where we have not reached. Even within this state where we are operating right now, there only few companies that have been supported and there are many more that need to be supported.\u201d<\/p>\n
IFDC is currently running A3SEEDS project supporting 10 seed companies across five locations of Juba, Torit, Bor, Rumbek and Yambio respectively.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
