Mayor says security identifies two suspects of killing 54 year man in Torit

By Obale Emmanuel-Torit

Two people have been identified as suspects in connection to the recent killing of a 54-year-old man in Torit on Sunday, Joseph Oswaha, Torit Mayor confirmed on Wednesday.

He says the suspects were identified through the help of the members from the community during the follow up of the footmarks of the criminals, Radio Emmanuel reported.

The mayor did not state when the suspects were identified and that it is now the task of the government to bring the culprits to book.

“Now we have already identified some suspects. Of course we have information; we have sources of information everywhere. When we follow the footmarks up to Audali, but in the southern part of Idolu, there is some about 3-5km away from the bridge, there is a place there called Taudali and after that we called some informers from the ground, they gave us exactly who are they, they were two, even the footmarks were two and we the government, we are going bring them to book”, he confirms.

The Mayor condemns the act and urges the community to refrain from the behaviour.

He says the passing of the deceased Serjo Odiongo was something unexpected and the mayor described the deceased as a fighter during the liberation struggle.

“It was very sad news, we condemned it in the strongest terms, we don’t want anything to happen, that thing happened abruptly and suddenly, we did not expect that anybody can be shot like Serjo Odiongo. He is an old soldier, almost 30-40years in the service. He is almost retired to come home and when you know his life he is one of the fighters unfortunately he was just killed in a cold blood”, Oswaha regrets.

The mayor calls on the entire population to embrace peace among them and live in harmony.

“Please there is no other formula to live in this world, unless we follow the formula of peace, you live in peace and harmony and then you will have a little bit to understand, a little bit to think to get what you can do. You follow peace and then you will be a peaceful person, even if we the government the only thing we are prioritizing is peace. We must have peace first and then some of the things will follow”, he appeals.

On Monday, the mayor confirmed to Radio Emmanuel that the deceased together with the wife went to collect firewood on Sunday evening then later he sent the wife to go home before him, but after a few hours he went missing.

Oswaha said the wife tried to search for the husband, but could not find and she informed the community members and on Monday morning he was found dead while with two gunt wounds.
