South Sudan’s ruling party said its Political Bureau meetings and the upcoming Liberation Council and the extraordinary conversion have nothing to do with the Constitution review and the 2015 elections.

SPLM Secretary-General Pagan Amum told journalists Monday in Juba that the Political Bureau on Sunday adopted draft Constitution that proposes a five-year term in office and increases women and youth participation to 30 and 20 percent respectively.

Mr Amum said the upcoming National Liberation Council and the Extraordinary National Convention have nothing to do with the elections but will discuss and approve basic documents not electing leaders.

He added that the meetings happening now are meant to restructure the party from the grassroots to the national level.

Mr Amum said the Political Bureau will meet again next week to discuss the SPLM Code of Conduct and Rules and Regulations and set a date for the National Liberation Council and for the Third Extraordinary National Convention.

The Secretary-General said the National Convention is the highest body that adopts and amends the SPLM Constitution and other documents and decides the party policies.
