Women from different institutions on Thursday engaged in a debate on their rights under the theme “What if women enjoyed same rights as men in South Sudan?”
South Sudan Democratic Engagement and Monitoring Program Secretary-General Merekaje Lorna said if women were to enjoy the same rights as men South Sudan would have been a beautiful and united country, Bakhita Radio reported.She added that women were neglected and not involved in the development of the country.
Janet Aya, Secretary-General of the Women Parliamentarians Caucus in the National Assembly, said if women were to enjoy the same rights like men there would be sustainable development and peace in the country.
She said if women and men were treated equally the society would be united.
President Advisor for Gender and Human Rights Rebecca Nyandeng de Mabior said if women were to enjoy the same rights as men the entire South Sudan would have developed very fast.
She said there are more women than men and as such women can contribute for the rapid development to the country.
The one-day debate was organised by Eye Radio and the International Republican Institute.
