Eastern Equatoria Governor declared Thursday a public holiday in the state for the people to mourn the death of Bishop Akio Johnson Mutek.

Louis Lobong Lojore made the declaration Wednesday while closing the third session of the State Assembly to allow the legislators to recess, Radio Emmanuel reported.

He said the House closed with a mixture of happiness and sorrow due to the death of Bishop Akio.

Mr Lobong stresses that on Thursday offices should be closed for citizens to receive the body of the Bishop for burial.

The Governor opened his speech by requesting the state parliament to observe a minute of silence in honour of late Bishop Akio and all martyrs who offered their lives for liberating the new nation.

Bishop Akio died at around 8:00 AM on Monday morning at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi after a long history of kidney problems.
