Morobo County Commissioner made a visit to Agriculture Advisory Organization in Morobo County to officially witness the implementation of an agro-forestry project supported by FAO, the UN Agriculture and Food Organization.

FAO is supporting the plantation of over 100,000 trees by the community in Morobo County of Central Equatoria, the County Press Secretary told CRN via e-mail.

Commissioner Moses Simon Soro said the project helps combat environmental degradation due over exploitation of forests in the County for timber and charcoal.

He added that he ordered a halt to tree cutting in the County indefinitely until a workable solution is devised to counter deforestation.

Agriculture Advisory Organization training coordinator Moses Bidali said 16,130 trees were ready for plantation.

They include various wood, fruit and medicinal trees.

At the moment there are mahogany, guava, pawpaw and lemon seedlings growing in nursery beds.

When they are ready the community can collect them free of charge for plantation.
