The authorities of Central Equatoria are preparing to introduce new number plates for vehicles registered in the state.

State physical infrastructure minister Suba Samuel Manas said there were many cases of duplication of number plates used by different car owners, Bakhita Radio reported.

He added that in most cases when vehicles reach the end of their lives owners tend to remove the number plates and use it on unregistered new cars.

Mr Samuel said the design for new number plate was already approved by the Council of Ministers.

He added that companies will bid to do the technical work that has to be approved by the Cabinet.

Mr Samuel said the new number plates will curb the high rate of fake registrations.

He added that they will help the traffic officers to identify cars involved in road accident.
