The Chairman of the National Constitutional Review Commission has denied domination of the SPLM in the Constitutional Review process.

Akolda Man Tier believes commission members are impartial, Bakhita Radio reported.

He said citizens have been adequately represented through the civil society organizations, Churches and political parties.

Prof. Tier explained that his commission is not the final authority over the constitution because the constitution will go to a conference to be debated for three months.

The chairman added that from the conference the constitution will go to the parliament to be debated for 12 months before its final approval.

He urged citizens to be patient because the process will take long.

Prof. Akolda said the commission is about to send staff to states in order to enlighten the grass roots on the process and collect their views.

He lamented that lack of funds may push the review process beyond the two years extension.

Margaret Mathew Mathiang, Chairperson of the Civic Education and Public consultation committee in the Commission denied her party dominating the process.

Last week Auxiliary Bishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Juba, Santo Loku Pio expressed concern offer the domination of the SPLM in the constitutional Review process.

He feared that the constitution might be a party instrument.

South Sudan’s National Transitional Constitution states that the Constitutional Review Commission shall produce a draft constitution to be discussed openly, and debated in parliament before it becomes the country’s permanent constitution.
