Over 60 South Sudanese and Ugandan delegates on Thursday started a cross-border peace conference at St. Mathew’s Ikwoto Parish Hall in Eastern Equatoria state.
Torit Catholic Diocese Peace and Justice Coordinator, Fr.John Opi said the two-day conference focuses on identifying areas of conflicts and opportunities of peace among the border communities.Fr. Opi added that the conference offers the border communities an opportunity to meet and dialogue in order to promote peaceful co-existence.
Catholic Bishop of Kotido Diocese, Giuseppe Filipe leads the Ugandan delegation of 22 members including a Member of Parliament, security, local government officials from Kaabong and Kotido districts.
Eastern Equatoria state Assembly deputy Speaker, Hon. Paul Napwon leads the South Sudan delegation comprising of the state Members of Parliament, County Commissioners, Payam, Boma and traditions chiefs from bordering areas.
Torit Catholic Diocese Peace and Justice Department organized the cross-border peace conference in collaboration with the state Peace and Justice Commission.
