Two Sudanese priests said that the ongoing elections are preparing the way for the referendum of Southern Sudan due on January 9, 2011.

Fr. Benjamin Madol and Fr. Andrea Osman are Sudanese Catholic priests from the Diocese of Rumbek.

The two clergymen told Good News Radio that the election is a meaningful pointer towards the much anticipated referendum.

Fr. Benjamin is most certain of the independence of Southern Sudan.

Fr. Andrea acknowledged the role of the media in bringing about awareness to voters.

He noted that the election process was marred with many logistical challenges

Fr. Benjamin highlighted illiteracy among most of the voters describing them as “confused”.

Fr. Andrea appealed to politicians and their supporters to accept the results, adding that if one does not go through now, there will be another chance in future.

Fr. Andrea Osman is the Vicar General of Rumbek Diocese while Fr. Benjamin Madol serves as the SPLA Chaplain, based in Juba.
