The Chairman of the National Election Commission stressed the need for political and economic reconciliation between rural and urban communities to advance development.

Abenego Akok said people in rural areas have to get basic services to feel the change, because the lives in urban and rural areas are very different.

He called for the reactivation of the rural projects, including Jebel Lodu and Aliab agricultural schemes, as another way of service delivery to the rural people.

He said reconciliation must be practical in order to establish normal relations among the common people.

Dr Akok called on the youth to understand the meaning and practice of reconciliation.

He said the values and cultures brought from different places have to be reconciled with the values and cultures of South Sudan.

Dr Akok said South Sudanese have to see 2013 to 2015 as a period of great concern.

He added that people should forget political differences and follow normal political processes to build a good future.

Dr Akok was speaking during a symposium on national reconciliation under the theme “Together towards the achievement of national reconciliation and forgiveness.”

The symposium was organized by the Almusir (The Destiny) Arabic daily newspaper on Saturday in Juba to mark its second anniversary of printing.
