An Indian company said on Thursday that it was going to invest 200 million US dollars to set up a sugar factory in Terekeka County, Central Equatoria.
Uttam Sucrotech International Managing Director Rajan Adlaka told reporters in Juba that his company aimed to be the biggest net sugar exporter in the region after it supplied the local market.He said three agriculturist teams finished a feasibility report and the company is identifying cane seedlings from neighbouring countries in order to start plantations.
Indian Ambassador to South Sudan Parmod Bajaj said Uttan’s investment in Central Equatoria was a welcomed initiative.
He urged other Indians companies to invest in South Sudan.
The communities of Gemeiza, Tombek and Mangala payams allocated land for sugarcane production and they will be part of the project.
