The people of Kauda, in Nuba Mountains region, celebrated the International Women’s Day successfully on Friday without interference from the frightening Sudanese warplanes.
The head of Women Association Laila K. said the celebration marked the women’s commitment to the path of struggle for peace.She added that their main objective was to stand with the local community and fight for justice and reconciliation in Nuba Mountains.
Najua M., Nuba Relief Rehabilitation and Development Organization Directress, said the celebration was about the role women play in the society and the world at large.
She explained that the day was most important for the Nuba community because of the current difficult situation they are experiencing due to the ongoing war.
Chocho Shaein, Kauda Town Executive Director, announced to the crowd that the celebration was a day for men and women to reconcile and work together for peace.
Thousands of people, including men and women and children, took part in the celebration.
SPLM-N officials and local NGOs representatives were also present.
