JAPAN CONTRIBUTES 53 MILLION DOLLARS FOR PEACE IN SOUTH SUDAN

The Government of Japan had decided to contribute a total of 53.3 million US dollars to the UN and international organizations to support peace consolidation in South Sudan.

The contribution comes from Japan’s supplementary budget for 2012 and is expected to respond to the emergency humanitarian needs especially for vulnerable people.

In a press release issued on Friday, Japan said the assistance aimed at facilitating reintegration of returnees through livelihood and housing supports, improve the situation of refugees and internally displaced persons.

It added that the assistance is for provision of basic needs such as food, water and promotion of humanitarian requirements by demining and rehabilitation of roads.

The release said the Government of Japan is strongly committed to accelerate consolidation of peace and development in South Sudan.

It has provided total amount of 740 million US dollars to South Sudan and Sudan since the signing of the CPA in 2005.
