The Episcopal Bishop of Terekeka Diocese said the sugar factory project is the only hope and a golden chance to improve the lives of people in Terekeka, because the area has not seen development since 1950s.

Bishop Micah Laila told CRN that he invited an Indian company to invest in sugar because the project would help train the locals to be self sufficient.

He said he was optimistic that the project would be a success and improved people’s lives.

Bishop Laila added that the company pledged to build three modern schools in the area within three months before the factory was set up.

He added it also promised three health centres in the area.

Bishop Micah Laila said the project came as a Church initiative: he consulted the communities about the project and they accepted the idea and was able to invite Uttan Sucrotech International to establish an integrated sugar complex in the area.

The sugar factory costs 200 million US Dollars.
