Young people from Budi and Kapoeta East Counties of Eastern Equatoria were urged to engage in nonviolent ways ro resolve conflicts among their communities.

Peace Building Manager for Catholic Relief Services Kogo Manase offered the advice on Sunday during the closure of a six-month project aimed at empowering the youth in peace building, Radio Emmanuel reported.

He said the youth should know how to handle their emotions and extend to the community the knowledge they acquired on peace building for the people to resolve conflicts without violence.

Mr Manase added that there were various social issues affecting young people in Budi and Kapoeta counties, including street children and negative cultural practices together with cattle rustling.

He said the young people were ready to resolve problems before they exploded to bigger extents.

The youth project code named “LEAD”, handled leadership skills, empowerment, advocacy and development aspects of the lives of the youth in respect to peace building activities among the community.

Mr Manase said the project was piloted in the two counties and would be extended to others if it yielded good results.
