Miners resumed digging for gold in Nuba Mountains after a long lull due to an incident with some SPLA-N forces.

Miner Usam Abdul-Majid says plenty of gold was found this week.

He added that another area rich in gold was discovered recently in Nuba Mountains.

Mr Abdul-Majid said miners are getting a good amount of gold but have a currency problem to sell it.

He explained that in Nuba Mountains 1,000 Sudanese Pounds is the equivalent to 1,200 South Sudanese Pounds. In South Sudan 1,000 Sudanese Pounds has the value of 500 South Sudanese Pounds.

Mr Abdul-Majid said one gram of gold is sold in South Sudan 170 South Sudanese Pounds while in Sudan it is sold at 240 Sudanese pounds.

He added that the South Sudanese currency has become more valuable than Sudanese currency affecting the market in the Nuba Mountains.
