The National Elections Commission says it is committed to free and fair elections through inviting domestic and international observers to monitor the polling.

Felista Baya Lawiri, a member of NEC, addressed in Juba yesterday some of the challenges emerging during polling days.

Ms. Baya saidt NEC has invited and accredited many monitors and observers to ensure that polling would be free and fair, since elections monitoring is part and parcel of the democratic process.

Ms. Baya highlighted that the Carter Centre has 132 observers and the European Union 166 all over the Sudan.

Veronique De Keyser, Head of the European Union Election Observation Mission, was in Juba yesterday to see the progress of the polling process.

Ms. De Keyser congratulated the Sudanese for the elections, especially in the logistically difficult situation of the South.

In general the progress of the elections has been reported smooth all over the country.
