The African Union Regional Task Force or RTF Commander briefed UN agencies, Government officials, NGO staff and media in Yambio about the operations on the ground to strike down the LRA leader and his force.

Brigadier General Dick Pritt Olum announced that the taskforce planed to change the operation cycle into three groups: the internal forces to prevent and strike, the zonal forces to protect and respond, and then the mobile forces to pursue and block LRA agents, Anisa Radio reported.

He disclosed that so far the taskforce killed six major LRA commanders and captured one together with big number of ammunitions and freed a number of abducted children.

General Olum said six pieces of ivory captured in Central Africa were kept at the Ugandan base in Nzara.

He added that LRA rebels operate in a vast area of 600 square miles mostly in Central Africa and in some areas in North Congo.

The General said there are 378 LRAs: 111 in DR Congo, 267 in Central Africa but none in South Sudan.

General Olum said the taskforce did not capture Joseph Kony yet due to the political situation of the disputed area of Kafia Kinji where he is suspected to be hiding.

He said the forces hunting for Kony do not have permission to enter the disputed area of Kafia Kinji under Sudan’s control.

General Olum said the forces had inadequate communication equipments, transportation, accommodations, medical provision and other logistical supplies in bases in Nzara, Obbo and Dungu.

The African Union Regional Task Forces was launched in March 2012 and counts on 5,000 military from South Sudan, Uganda, Central Africa and DR Congo.
