Elections in Ikotos County of Eastern Equatoria state were delayed two days due to lack of police to secure the polling materials.
Eastern Equatoria state Election High Committee chairman, Joseph Ojuku, told journalists in Torit town that the exercise started on Tuesday, Radio Emmanuel reported.Mr. Ojuku said the police delayed to be deployed and the election material would not be distributed without the presence of the security personnel at the polling stations.
He added that Ikotos County Authorities demanded that the police to be paid in cash before they are deployed to the polling stations.
Mr. Ojuku wondered how an arm of the government could hold another hostage and disrupt national exercise.
Mr. Ojukwu added that the authorities also requested allowances for fuel to transport the security officials to their respective work stations.
He says that the National Elections Commission remitted the money for the payment of the police and for eight barrels of fuels to each county without the involvement of the State High Elections office.
