Lakes State Ministry of Health signed a contract with AMREF, the African Medical Research Foundation, to carry out free cleft lip surgery in Rumbek next week.
Jimmy Donato, the medical officer in charge of the surgical department of Rumbek Civil Hospital, told Good News Radio that cleft lip surgery is free and people who need the surgery should register from the age on one upwards.He explained that cleft lip Ð or split upper lip Ð and cleft palate were due to malformations during gestation.
Dr Donato requested the public, and in particularly the families with cleft lip members, to use this opportunity and get the free surgery.
He added that the surgery is simple and patients recover quickly.
Cleft lip and palate operations start on Monday in Rumbek State hospital and will take three full days.
