Though the volume of returns to South Sudan has decreased over the past year to just fewer than 160,000 individuals, an estimated 230,000 South Sudanese nationals remain in Sudan.

Among those returnees, 40,000 are living in the open spaces or departure centres in Khartoum looking for an opportunity to return to South Sudan, and some 3,000 remain stranded in Kosti, White Nile State Ð IOM or International Organization for Migration said.

Over 19,000 returnees remain stranded in Renk, faced with deteriorating conditions and opportunities, as well as a decrease in the number of humanitarian actors operating in the area since mid 2012.

IOM provides assistance to returnees stranded in Renk, including primary health care and hygiene services, monitoring of new arrivals and departures and distribution of non-food items.
