The former Catholic Bishop of Torit said the UN 2013 Sergio Vieira de Mello Peace Prize awarded to him will raise up more peacemakers in South Sudan.

Bishop Paride Taban told CRN that the prize will inspire more Desmond Tutus and Nelson Mandelas to come from Africa’s newest state.

He said he was surprised about the award, because what he did was humble work for the service of the people as Jesus did.

Bishop Taban added that he did not expect that his work could be recognized by the world, but that he knew that God would be the only one to recognize his work.

He said his recognition came as a result of support from Equatoria, South Sudanese and the international community.

Bishop Taban added that the privilege should go to the people of South Sudan and particularly to Greater Equatoria because of their support to him to better the lives of people.

Bishop Taban was speaking in Juba on his way to receive his peace Award on March 1 in Geneva, Switzerland.
