Police officers were not deployed at some polling stations because the National Elections Commission did not inform the forces about new voting centres being opened.
Major General Jackson Elia told journalists that police officers had not been placed at some polling stations due to coordination problems between NEC and the Police.Major-General Elia added that more police officers are being deployed also in places which raise security concern.
He also referred to reports on intimidation, which are being investigated through the proper channels.
Major-General. Elia clarified that administrative problems, related to the transport of boxes and ballot papers, are being addressed, and that the general situation in the ten states of Southern Sudan is calm.
