UNMISS, the United Nations Mission in South Sudan, organized a training in Wau on ways to fight HIV and AIDS in local communities using religious and cultural values.

The ten-day training, held at UNMISS camp in Wau, brought 39 participants from blue helmets, UNMISS and NGOs local staffs, and members of the organized forces and from the State Ministry of Health, Voice of Hope reported.

UNMISS HIV AIDS Unit Officer Jacqueline Nyanga said the workshop was one of the backbones in UNMISS’ strategic planning to fight HIV AIDS.

She explained that the training was an intensive campaign on HIV’s ABC and it included some additional religious and cultural values to fight the virus.

Ms Nyanga said that she expected participants to sensitize their communities about what they learned in the training for the information to reach the grassroots in coordination with local partners.

She added that without sensitization on dangers of HIV AIDS, the virus will never stop spreading.

Ms Nyanga said the training program would extend to Raja County and other states of Bahr el Ghazal.
